Abstract

In our classrooms there is high diversity that requires solutions to help us to attend to our students. We need methodologies that promote equal opportunities for personal success inside the difference. Focusing on our field, the failure of mathematics in the early years of learning can leave indelible marks on the person. So, we understand how important is to start using integrated methodologies which not label to student as "able" or "not able" for mathematics. In this study we show a methodology based in the use of an open calculation based on numbers (ABN) as an inclusive alternative, it is based on the meaningful learning of the decimal system and on the comprehensive mastery of the operations and their properties. We analyse the level of development of numerical skills of a group of students who followed this methodology in the first stage of primary education, finding differences in all aspects of formal and informal mathematics; numbers, comparison, conventions, conceptualization, formal calculus, numerical calculation and numerical facts. But not all cases these differences become statistically significant.
