Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing situations of gender inequality at the World Universities Debating Championships in Spanish (CMUDE). To this end, data on the participation and performance of debaters and judges in the 2023 edition of the competition are studied. The results show that, in relation to the debaters, the situations of inequality identified in previous editions persisted in 2023: in general, more men participated, although the gap was smaller than before, and they obtained better scores. In the case of judges and in contrast to previous editions, more women than men participated in 2023. However, women occupied the role of trainees, without the right to vote, more than men and exercised less the role of chairs. At the same time, women were less chosen than men to evaluate in the elimination rounds.
