Resumen
El objetivo del siguiente artículo es describir, caracterizar y analizar el ambientalismo liberal como contexto normativo en el cual se inscribe la gobernanza global del cambio climático, tomando como base los aportes teóricos de la Escuela Inglesa. El estudio se centra en el análisis de este complejo normativo, que ha tenido primacía desde la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo a la fecha, y se caracteriza por aceptar la liberalización del comercio y de las finanzas como un programa consistente con, e incluso necesario para, la protección ambiental a nivel internacional.
En el trabajo se argumenta que la gobernanza global del cambio climático puede interpretarse a la luz de estas ideas como un arreglo intermedio entre la sociedad internacional y la sociedad mundial. Aunque la propia Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre Cambio Climático establece el proceso de negociación internacional como un proceso eminentemente interestatal, la creciente regulación del tema a través de arreglos público-privados conformaría una institución primaria emergente de la sociedad mundial.
