Abstract

Over the past twenty-five years, military interventions against jihadist terrorism have failed. The case of France in the Sahel is no exception since, after its withdrawal, Islamist armed groups have become stronger. Two decades ago, terrorism in West Africa was a minority, but now these organizations control vast areas, even threatening regional capitals. This essay asks about the factors and consequences of terrorist expansion in this region of the African continent."
