Abstract
Collective action and social movements have been widely studied in political science as a prism for analysing the socio-political dynamics of different democratic and authoritarian regimes, and especially transitions and democratisation processes. For the Arab world, however, while protests as a form of political participation have been a constant since colonial times, they have not always been taken into consideration as a primary explanation for the political changes and new social dynamics that the region has experienced over the years.
Protest Dynamics in the Arab World: Challenging Authoritarian Regimes takes a comprehensive approach to protest as a form of unconventional political participation that emerges as a response to authoritarian regimes in the region, and which presents a number of specificities within the field of collective action and social movements.
