Abstract

Education is consubstantial with human societies and is possibly one of the most significant drivers of change. The deep social transformations produced worldwide during the last decades (processes of globalization, migrations, social inequalities, injustice, discrimination, intolerance, etc.) have done much to accentuate our interconnection and interdependence on a global level. The citizens of the world, and especially our children and youth, have the right to participate in relevant and stimulating educational experiences that help them to understand -both in formal and informal contexts- their role in society and their rights and responsibilities as citizens in a increasingly globalized world. Among the people dedicated to education there is a growing awareness and an active commitment to the need to develop and promote attitudes and values that allow building a more egalitarian and just society.
