Autonomous art or emancipatory art: offshoots of a “Speculative Theory of Art”. J.M. Schaeffer and the opening to a naturalization of the aesthetic experience

Abstract
In this article we wish to establish
the main lines of criticism that the philosopher
Jean-Marie Schaeffer (1952),
as a representative of a non-reductionist
naturalism, makes to the classic debate
between the conceptions of autonomous
Art (supposedly out of any ideology, and
for that reason considered ideological)
and of emancipatory Art. To do this, after
a brief introduction, we will explain
what he calls Speculative Theory of Art,
which encourages both positions. Then,
we will propose the path opened and explored
by “naturalistic aesthetics”.
