Abstract

This paper examines the development of children's notion of the monetary emissions process in a sample of 32 subjects with ages ranging from 6 to 14, using the clinical piagetian interview. The results show that the children build representarions from this process in three levels or categories representatives of their global cognitive stage. In a first level (ages 6 to 9), the children's notions about the money manufacture as the determination of its value and their accessibility and possesion do not present explicit norms, the older children (8-9 years) have constructed variable norms that are characterized by its inestability and contradictions. In a second level, the children (ages 10 to 13) recognise the concepts of monetary emissions process in a more coherent new structure, integrated with the use of abstraction processes and inferences typical of a more advanced cognitive level.
