Abstract
The Improving Quality of Life project at the public Javalambre nursing home in Teruel (I.A.S.S.) offers individual clinical music therapy sessions as an end-of-life accompaniment to those who are bedridden or with very reduced mobility. The work is performed by a professional music therapist accredited in Spain and supervised by another professional music therapist accredited to supervise. This article shows the intervention with 31 residents, receiving a weekly session of approximately 10 to 25 minutes during 20 weeks from October 2022. All have advanced dementia, with grade 7 cognitive impairment according to the Reisberg Global Impairment Scale, a degree of serious or severe functional dependence according to the Barthel index, and with palliative care needs. trying to demonstrate that music therapy can improve the quality of life of patients.
