Subprime Crisis

Abstract

Bird & Fortune's video on the crisis, apart from being very popular on the Internet, is a wonderful exercise in English irony. It is the point of humor for this issue, after the articles, but the content is, in reality, tremendously serious. The dialogue that the actors maintain throughout its eight minutes shows the degree of absurdity that the operation of the international financial system has reached. The quotes they make and the names they give (for example, in the case of the hedge funds mentioned) are real, they are not creative imaginations of the actors. For this reason, the richness of the irony of the dialogue is shown in that behind the humor lies the tragedy of the crisis.
