La representación de la Primavera Árabe en los medios de comunicación estadounidenses

Resumen

El presente estudio examina la representación de la Primavera Árabe en la prensa estadounidense. Desde la perspectiva del Análisis Crítico del Discurso, el estudio analiza cómo los periodistas emplearon estrategias discursivas y dispositivos lingüísticos vinculados a su propia ideología y agenda durante la cobertura de noticias de la Primavera Árabe. El análisis de periódicos sugiere que la representación mediática de árabes y musulmanes está saturada de discursos vinculados a la ideología del orientalismo. De hecho, hay gran número de temáticas orientalistas presentes en la mayoría de los textos. Los temas preliminares y comunes encontrados en la cobertura de la Primavera Árabe son la violencia en el mundo árabe (representación negativa del otro), la islamofobia (el islam como amenaza), y la superioridad occidental en comparación con los árabes (auto-representación positiva). Los resultados muestran que la cobertura mediática estadounidense fue parcial e injusta. En este sentido, existe un refuerzo de los estereotipos a través de los cuales se mira a Oriente.
