The aim of this paper is to analyze an unpublished letter written by the biblical scholar Andrés Fernández Truyols in 1946. This letter contains a brief summary of the excavations carried out at Teleilat el-Ghassul, Lachish, Jericho, Ai, Megiddo and Jerusalem. Moreover, Fernández Truyols offered a definition of Biblical archaeology: (1) it was an auxiliary science of biblical studies that lacked an autonomous entity; (2) its main function was to confirm the historical-religious veracity of the Bible; (3) It was a new discipline, so any possible discrepancy between archeology and the Bible had to be attributed to its poor development. Ultimately, the letter offered a radically conservative and apologetic definition of Biblical archeology
