Abstract

This article tries to demonstrate that poverty is not a phenomenon isolated from the conception of right in Hegel’s Philosophy of Right, but a fundamental player in that work’s justificatory project. The realization of right is directly tied to the idea of freedom, which in turn is linked to an ethical order that must recognize the rabble, not deprive them of their rights. Poverty directly affects the conception of right because if the rabble is not recognized as free, right as such no longer exists.
