Abstract

The sculptor Alberto Sánchez (1895-1962), one of the most important figures in the Spanish historical vanguard, goes through a crisis during the previous years to the civil war and he practically renounces to the tridimensional creation that he had developed between 1925 and 1932. At the end of this last year he gives a lecture at the "Ateneo de Madrid" where he exposes the basis of an unrealizable poetics faced with the Spanish historical moment. Shortly afterwards, in spite of the political and ideological pressures, Alberto makes an important bi-dimensional work, unpublished until now, for whom political duty and individual creation were unavoidable and (occasionally) irreconcilable terms.
