Abstract
The greater chapel of the monastery of La Vid supposes a rare example in Burgos of centralized architecture finished off in a scallop with classical decoration. The sources document have not contributed light on the first phase of the work, related with a stranger Sebastián de Oria. Coinciding with a new constructive stage -much better known, we know the visit of highlighting architects in 1542 that introduce modifications in the Gothic chapel, moment starting from which the construction remains in Pedro de Rasines’s hands. Our investigation is centered in this transformation suffered by the foundation of the cardinal Don Íñigo López de Mendoza and of their brother the count of Miranda, Don Francisco de Zúñiga y Avellaneda, expounding new hypothesis on the responsibility of the Gothic project and the artistic filiation of the Renaissance chapel.
