Abstract

The objective of this paper is to show our proposal of a field laboratory, close to the excavation, with
the aim of preserving the bronzes in the best possible conditions. The treatments are conditioned by an evident limitation of time and means for realising. It is proposed a way to adapt the methodology regularly applied in conservation and restoration work, to the specific circumstances and current context of this project.
The type of deterioration of the bronze artifacts, in relation to the archaeological context, stems from some peculiarities of the moment of burial: high temperatures, collapses, pressures, ash pH and low relative humidity.
During the intervention, the first aim was to stabilize the bronzes and improve both the reading of the decorative and structural details, as well as the storage conditions. In the case of coins, priority was given to the elimination of concretions, consolidation and cleaning for their conservation. Furthermore, the recovery of the reliefs have allowed their identification.
