Abstract:
This study assesses the pattern of political transition implemented in Tunisia along the last six months. Doing so, it addresses two analytical dimensions of the Tunisian political change: its procedure and content. As a result, the analysis offers two principal findings. The first one is that different procedural formulas have been tested to manage the reforming process. The second, derived from the previous one, is that this procedural flexibility has led the country to experience diverse patterns of political transition to democracy. Thus is, Tunisia firstly experienced a model of transition characterized by the regime’s power conservation. Later, the country went through a second phase of transition in which power was shared between the elite of the regimen and the opposition. Finally, the Tunisian political system seems to have reached a third transitional stage in which both the regime and the opposition have mutually accepted a particular model of power resignation.
