CALL FOR PAPERS

Issue 51 / Open issue

Publication: October 2022

The journal Relaciones Internacionales is an academic electronic publication released three times a year by the International Relations Study Group of the Autonomous University of Madrid (GERI-UAM, Spain). It is a project that has sought to contribute to the theoretical development of the field since 2005, and from critical epistemological perspectives, promoting “situated” and “dissident” analyses of different international realities and contexts. This is combined with stringent requirements in terms of the content and form of its articles, which has allowed for the gradual growth in the impact and relevance of the journal in recent years, making possible its insertion in important indexes of quality and recognition. Among them, the renewal of the FECYT Certification (Spanish Foundation of Science and Technology) stands out, an accreditation that has highlighted Relaciones Internationales as one of the best journals in the Spanish academic landscape consecutively since 2019.

The Editorial Team presents, as is tradition, the call for papers of its annual open issue, corresponding to number 51 of the journal, with expected publication in October 2022. In line with the general editorial line of the journal, this issue will prioritize the publication of new work that tackles questions of politics, culture, history, economy, and society, and that is centred on the academic field of international relations. Nonetheless, research that approaches these questions from other fields of the social sciences (political science, history, law, economics, sociology, anthropology) will also be considered, although it should always have a bearing on the international.

Specifically this issue, given its open character, seeks articles that opt for dialogue between new theoretical perspectives, the interrogation of dominant academic currents, and critical thinking. Below we detail a series of examples of areas/themes that are of interest for publication:

  • Reflection on ontological and/or epistemological controversies most present in the field of international relations currently (feminist debates, the posthuman turn, new materialisms, critical security studies, postcolonialism…).
  • Studies on the historical trajectory of theoretical debates within the field of international relations.
  • Analysis on the historical development and evolution of relevant questions within the field of international relations like, for example, human rights, security agendas, international organizations or migration, among others.
  • Contributions that link other fields in the social sciences (political science, history, law, economics, sociology, anthropology) with the analysis of international questions.

All the articles sent for evaluation and possible publication must conform to the editing and style guidelines of the journal, which are detailed in the Style Manual. The publication will take place during the expected dates, and will be made available online and with open access.

In line with the understanding of Relaciones Internacionales that language has a fundamental relevance for the comprehension, explanation and reproduction of reality, the necessary flexibility in the use of language is accepted. The aims of this are to ensure that the process is as inclusive and non-sexist as the authors see fit. For those who want to make use of these modalities we request that the papers continue to fulfil the guidelines elaborated in the Style Manual.

The coordination of the issue have established the following dates of interest:

DUE DATE

SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES

The full document of the article must conform wholly and meticulously to the Style Manual of the journal. The submission stage ends on Monday 18th of April 2022 (up to and including).

The submission of the article will be made on the web-page of the journal through the management platform OJS (Open Journal System). It is essential that the authors —all of them in the event that there is more than one— are registered by completing the requested data on the platform registration page with the most up-to-date information:

https://revistas.uam.es/relacionesinternacionales

COMMUNICATION OF SELECTION

The coordinators of the journal will analyse the submitted manuscripts to verify if the proposals conform to the research areas defined in the call for papers, and will communicate, by email, the acceptance, or rejection of the proposals on Monday, 25th of April, 2022.

The platform OJS (Open Journal System), which the authors will have registered on previously, will allow for the tracking of all the administration processes and the state of the text.

EVALUATION process

Once the article is submitted correctly through the website, the double-blind evaluation process begins. The decision process will take between three and six months, depending on the case: this may include the return of the text to its author(s) for the revision or correction of changes and suggestions made by the anonymous reviewers. During the evaluation process, the reviewers will be responsible for certifying the quality of the work of the authors, as well as the appropriateness of the final texts for the topics proposed in the call for papers.

  • PLEASE NOTE: suggestions by the authors of possible reviewers for the evaluation of their texts are permitted. With the text of your proposal, you can send us by email the names of academics with extensive knowledge of the aspects dealt with in your work so that- if the coordination considers it appropriate- these people can be contacted as blind reviewers.

Throughout the evaluation process (between June and August), those authors whose text receives the complete approval of the assigned reviewers will be notified of the definitive acceptance of their article.

EDITING process

During the month of September 2022, the journal will proceed to the definitive editing of the text, to be published in October. The complete and careful compliance with the rules stated in the Style Manual of the journal is understood to be the responsibility of the authors, and this is a requirement for the final publication of the article in Issue 51.

PUBLICATION OF THE VOLUME

Throughout the month of October 2022 the 51th edition of the journal Relaciones Internacionales, with the title Open Issue,” will be published in digital format, online, open access and free. All the articles that have fulfilled the requirements of the stages indicated above will be included.

LANGUAGES

Proposals in Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French will be accepted. However, the articles must be translated to Spanish for publication. It will be the authors themselves who send the translated articles in Spanish.
