Resumen

Chorfa, Haj, Alem y santo. Chej Maelainin, último de los grandes personajes del Sáhara nació en el seno de una familia de linaje chorfa, dedicada al estudio. Su padre Mohammed Fadel le transmitió sus conocimientos y le envió a Sakiet el Hamra para extender la influencia de su cofradía. Personaje carismático supo ganarse la voluntad de los nómadas, actuando de árbitro e intentando siempre la unificación. Nunca abandonó el modo de vida nómada hasta que se instaló en Smara. Como intelectual fue muy reconocido en el imperio cherifiano y por los propios sultanes. Fue nombrado representante, jalifa, del sultán en el Sáhara por Hassán I y apoyó siempre la política del Makhzen hasta que se sintió traicionado al pactar con los franceses. Lideró el yihad contra los infieles en el Sáhara.

He was appointedrepresentative,caliph,of the sultan of Saharaby HassanI and healways supported the Makhzenpolicyuntil he feltbetrayed in thepact withthe French.He ledthe jihad against theinfidels inthe Sahara.
