Resumen
Como es sabido, en la Biblioteca de El Escorial se hallan numerosos libros prohibidos por la Inquisición. En la primera parte de este artículo estudiamos las condiciones que permiten la existencia en El Escorial de una biblioteca secreta, mientras que en la segunda analizamos cuatro obras representativas de dos géneros censurados por la Inquisición: las traducciones parciales de la Biblia y los libros de horas y sus herederos. Nos centraremos en las anotaciones manuales que aparecen en estos libros prohibidos, en la comunidad lectora a la que se dirigen y por último en cómo quieren los autores que sean leídas sus obras. Tomamos siempre la materialidad del texto como punto de partida de nuestro análisis, puesto que las formas condicionan el sentido, la apropiación del significado por parte del lector.

SPIRITUALS BOOKS FORBIDDEN IN THE LIBRARY OF EL ESCORIAL (SIXTEENTH CENTURY)
As it is known numerous of the forbidden books by the Inquisition are found in the Library of El Escorial. The first part of this article studies the conditions that allow the existence in El Escorial of a secret library, whereas the second part analyses four representative works of two different kind of genres censured by the Inquisition: the partial translations of the Bible and the books of hours and its heirs. We will focus on the written notes which appear in the forbidden books, in the reading community those address to, and, finally, in how the authors want these books to be read. We always take into the materiality of the text as the starting point, since the forms determine the meaning, the reader’s appropriation of the meaning.
