This bibliographic review examines the concept of global competence, tracing its evolution over time and exploring how the International Baccalaureate (IB) educational system can help schools develop this critical skill in students. It explores how the concept has evolved over the years, moving beyond a narrow focus on intercultural communication and collaboration to encompass a broader range of skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are essential for success in a globalized world. It also analyzes the role that the IB educational system can play in developing global competence in students. The IB's mission to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect is reflected in its comprehensive and internationally recognized curriculum. The review explores the core elements of the IB curriculum that promote global competence, as well as the range of subject areas that are emphasized. Finally, the review considers the impact of the IB's emphasis on global competence, including its role in preparing students to tackle the complex challenges facing humanity in the 21st century and creating a new generation of leaders who are equipped to navigate a rapidly changing world.
