Abstract

In this paper I try to analyze the concept of “electronic document”. I define its fundamental properties through the notion of “dependency chain”. This concept allows us to understand who has access to an electronic document and who can be considered the owner a document in the Digital Age. Finally, by means of the fundamental notion of “layer”, we study the internal structure of certain types of electronic documents, web pages, and study the boundaries and definition of this entity at the present moment.
