Abstract
Philosophies for Latin American liberation arose in a very propitious context in terms of social, economic, and political conditions, as well as in terms of the contributions of other schools of thought such as Dependence Theory, Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Liberation Theology. Philosophies for Latin American Liberation are to be regarded as a peripheral thought that starts from Latin American reality in order to be useful in this process of liberation, in that praxis of liberation which is according to Dussel the enactment of a true questioning of the existing system. It is a philosophizing of the oppressed that starts out from their very own dependence, rejecting imposed categories and renewing the methods and aims of philosophy.
