Abstract

For the French writer Marcel Proust,
art in general, and more specifically literature,
its main function to help us incorporate
the past into our present experiences,
allowing us to associate what we have
lived previously to our current sensations
and experiences, and thereby facilitating
our reaching the essential reality, the reality
that goes beyond the simple immediate
events and the unbearable banality
in which the demands and urgencies of
everyday life tend to submerge us.
