Resumen
Hobbes defendió un concepto de libertad política como no-arbitrariedad. Esta hipótesis rechaza una interpretación dominante que considera que el inglés defiende un concepto de libertad política como mera ausencia de interferencias. El artículo contribuye a clarificar el potencial de la teoría de Hobbes en lo referente al rol que el Estado juega en la tarea de asegurar que los ciudadanos puedan vivir no sólo vidas no interferidas, sino no sujetas a cambios arbitrarios. Contribuye también a precisar los contornos de las diferencias entre la tradición liberal y la republicana.
