Abstract

This paper presents the results of the analysis of freshwater bivalve remains recovered from archaeological excavations in the province of León (Spain). The presence of these molluscs is attested from the Bronze Age to Medieval Times. However, the limited number of remains which is usually present and the absence of marks associated with human activity raise questions about the cultural significance of these remains.
