Sobre las pinturas del Colegio Imperial de Madrid en Santa Cruz de Retamar (Toledo): una inédita "Nuestra Señora del Amparo" del estilo de Francisco de Zurbarán

Abstract

The expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767 produced a vast spread of the most of his artistic collections, especially those which were in the controls of the schools. The Imperial School of Madrid was one of the most affected and of its great collection of paintings, only a few remain these days. In this paper we try to identify one of the paintings which belonged to the Imperial School, which is attributed to Francisco de Zurbarán, as well as explaining the reasons of why a painting of such magnitude did not leave a mark in the artistic literature of the XVII and XIX centuries.
