Abstract
The Prince of Asturias's nuptials -future king Fernando VII- with the princess María Antonia of Naples, ratified in Barcelona on October 4th 1802, generated the displacement of Carlos IV and his family to this city and the creation of magnificent pieces of furniture -beds and set of chairs principally- for this occasion. Zaragoza, Barcelona, Valencia, Cartagena and Aranjuez were the principal stages of royal travel, also known as the "Journey to Barcelona". Antonio Pomareda, Pedro Cancio and Joaquín Álvarez, "upholsterers of adornement" of the Royal Tapes, took charge of the design and direction of the pieces of furniture, created by famous craftsmen of the Royal House. The accounts presented on the matter permitted to reconstruct with detail this singular area of the Spanish court furniture in the early 19th century.
