Resumen


Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852), el gran pionero en la revalorización del arte gótico durante el siglo XIX, es conocido fundamentalmente por su labor como teórico, crítico y arquitecto, y en menor medida su trabajo como diseñador de Artes Suntuarias, gran coleccionista y marchante de obras de arte medievales. Su figura, muy popular y valorada en el mundo anglosajón, es, sin embargo, casi desconocida en nuestro país. En el presente artículo pretendemos mostrar la figura de A. W. N. Pugin como diseñador de piezas de joyería, y en concreto el parure realizado para su tercera esposa, Jane Knill (1827-1909), siguiendo las anotaciones de sus cartas.

Abstract

Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852), the great pioneer of the Gothic Revival in the 19th century, is known mainly as theorist, critic and architect, and less as designer of Decorative Arts, collector and dealer in antiquities and works of art. He is very popular and well-known in the English-speaking world, however he is less well-known in our country. This article proposes to introduce A. W. N. Pugin as designer of jewellery and, in particular, the parure made for his third wife, Jane Knill (1827-1909), following his letters.
