Abstract
The aim of this article is to show the relations between Literature and Culture within the framework proposed by Cultural Rhetoric. For doing it, the teaching of Rhetoric during the Elizabethan period is analysed, showing its influence in Shakespeare in general and in The Merchant of Venice in particular. The process of oratio in fabula is proposed.
