Interdisciplinarity is one of the key tools of scientific research, however, its application has not always been easy. In 2019, the project whose objective was focused on the use of archaeological, restoration and conservation techniques for the study of the materials found in the excavation campaign of the same year at the site of Mad?nat al-Zahr? emerged. These findings focused mainly on a possible door lined with iron bands and dated to the 10th century AD.
To carry out work on these materials, the aim was to simultaneously implement methods of micro-excavation, consolidation, conservation and restoration of the metals, that were in an advanced state of corrosion and that constitute one of the few examples of findings of these characteristics preserved in situ and dated to the end of the Caliphate of Cordoba.
