Resumen
El artículo toma una postura en relación a cómo ha sido entendido Weber al intentar verle principalmente como un precursor de una ciencia social empírica y una concepción causal del poder como en la tradición de Dahl. Sigue el argumento y confirma la opinión de Raymond Aron de que, al contrario, su ciencia social está profundamente imbuida de objetivos filosóficos: "Esta interpretación de la relación entre la ciencia y la política lleva a una cierta filosofía que, en aquel momento, no se llamaba aún 'existencialista', pero que hoy en día pertenece a dicha corriente". De ahí que, más que ver su sociología sólo como una forma para deslindar la especificidad de la investigación social tanto de la teoría normativa como de las ciencias naturales (cosa que ciertamente hizo), el presente artículo sigue a aquellos que ven sus decisiones metodológicas y sociológicas como parte de un esfuerzo político y ético.
