Abstract:

The goal of the present research is to examine the opinions concerning the acceptance of the new institution of the Olympic Movement which concerns the Youth Olympics Games, as well as the benefits and their value which will occur with the establishment of the institution. The research took place in Ancient Olympia during the workings of the International Sessions of the International Olympic Academy for the years 2008-2009. The analysis took place with the use of the statistics program SPSS-16 and in order to obtain the results descriptive measures were used, such as a general mean, standard deviation and mode. For the monitoring of error in statistics between the levels of each categorization (gender, age, country and education level) a post hoc analysis was held with the use of Scheffe criteria through simple Variance analysis (ANOVA). The results of the study lead us to the conclusion that the Youth Olympic Games are an important innovative initiative of the Olympic Movement, combining the triptych “Sports – Education – Culture”. Its establishment as an institution has a lot to offer to the Olympic Movement, to the Youth and to the broader social community, since it will contribute to the dissemination of Olympism on a global level.

Keywords: Youth Olympic Games, Olympism, Youth, Olympic values.
}, number={2}, journal={Citius, Altius, Fortius}, author={MAKRIS, Alexandros and GEORGIADIS, Konstantinos}, year={2016}, month={ene.} }
